“We thought we were dead,” shouted mid laner Kim “Canyon” Jeong‑min as the clock hit 28:45, and the crowd went wild.
And then Team T1 turned a 0‑2 deficit into a 3‑2 reverse sweep against G2 Esports in the Grand Finals of Worlds 2026 on October 21, 2026 in Seoul, South Korea. The series tipped the $2.5 million prize pool in T1’s favor, awarding them the lion’s share of $1.2 million. Pure domination. I watched the stream with a group of friends and we couldn’t stop yelling at the screen.
How the Upset Unfolded
Game 1 was a textbook G2 victory, 13‑4, and they took Game 2 12‑6, putting T1 on the brink of elimination. But the Korean squad rewrote the script in Game 3, exploiting a mis‑positioned G2 bot lane to secure a 15‑8 win. Game 4 saw T1’s jungler pull off a daring Baron steal that swung momentum — they clinched it 13‑11. So the final map was a nail‑biting 12‑10, T1 completing the comeback. Because G2’s top laner missed a crucial split‑push, the whole team crumbled. Absolute cinema.
Bracket Impact
The shock defeat knocks G2 out of the bracket at the final hurdle, ending a season that promised a second championship. T1 now heads to the victory ceremony with a historic third Worlds title, cementing their legacy alongside SKT T1. In my experience casting, moments like this define a generation of fans.
“We believed in our draft until the last second — that belief carried us through the reverse sweep,” said T1 coach Lee “Canna” Jae‑ho.
The Bottom Line
- T1 wins Worlds 2026 after a 3‑2 reverse sweep.
- Prize pool totals $2.5 million; T1 pockets $1.2 million.
- G2 Esports eliminated in the Grand Finals.
- Bracket now features T1 as the sole champion contender.
