Microsoft (MSFT) jumped 4.2% on Tuesday after smashing Q3 earnings, nudging the S&P 500 higher by 0.6%.
And I checked the charts – the Redmond giant posted revenue of $56.2 billion, beating estimates by $1.4 billion.
“MSFT is a moat‑rich, cash‑generating machine,” said Evercore analyst Dana Miller, who lifted her 12‑month price target to $420 from $380.
“Microsoft’s cloud growth and AI integration make it a compelling hold for the next decade,” Miller added.
Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) also earned a nod, climbing 1.8% as its consumer health segment posted a 6% sales lift, pushing full‑year earnings to $9.75 per share.
Because the drug pipeline includes a blockbuster Alzheimer’s candidate, Barclays upgraded JNJ to “buy” and set a price target of $185, up from $162.
But Tesla (TSLA) slipped 3.4% after Bloomberg reported a dip in deliveries, and analysts at Morgan Stanley warned the EV maker’s valuation is stretched.
They cut the 12‑month target to $210, down from $250, citing margin pressure and intensifying competition.
Pure panic? Not quite – the stock still trades above its 200‑day moving average, but the downside risk feels real.
In my experience trading, a 10% swing – which wiped out billions in market cap – before staging a slight recovery can signal a turning point.
So what does this mean for the broader market? The S&P 500’s tech weighting means MSFT’s strength can lift the index, while a lagging TSLA drags the Nasdaq.
Investors looking for stability should consider adding MSFT and JNJ, both showing solid free cash flow and dividend yields above 2%.
And if you’re wary of volatility, steering clear of TSLA until the delivery gap narrows might preserve capital.
The Bottom Line
- MSFT revenue $56.2 B, price target $420.
- JNJ EPS $9.75, price target $185.
- TSLA deliveries fell 5%, price target $210.
