PlayStation Switch: 5 Xbox Features I Still Miss

When the PS5 Pro finally launched at $499, I expected flawless performance – but the moment I hit the home screen, I felt the absence of Xbox’s instant‑resume magic.

I’ve been a Game Pass subscriber for three years, devouring titles like Halo Infinite at 144 fps on a 1440p monitor. The library rolls out new releases weekly, and the cost‑effective $9.99 monthly fee dwarfs the $69.99 price tag of many PS Plus tiers. I built a PC with an RTX 4090 last month (in my experience) and still couldn’t beat the sheer variety Game Pass offers. And the fact that I can stream to my phone without a dongle feels like cheating. Pure hype.

Quick Resume lets me hop between three games at once, keeping each frozen at the exact frame I left it. So I could pause Forza Horizon 5 at a cliffhanger, jump into Gears 5, then launch Sea of Thieves without a loading screen. That fluidity is missing on PS5, where each title forces a fresh boot. The new console runs smoothly — which surprised me — but the loading times are still terrible.

“I miss the ability to jump between three games without closing any of them,” the author admits.

Backward compatibility on Xbox means my 2015 Gears of War 3 still runs at 60 fps with HDR on a 4K TV. Because Sony only supports select PS4 titles, many of my old favorites sit idle on the shelf. Not worth the upgrade.

Xbox’s integration with Windows lets me launch the same game on my desktop and pick up where I left off on the console. But PlayStation’s Remote Play feels clunky and requires a constant Wi‑Fi connection. I tested the beta and the latency was noticeable.

That’s a brilliant design choice.

The Bottom Line

  • Game Pass: $9.99/mo, 300+ titles, 144 fps support.
  • Quick Resume: up to three games instantly.
  • Backward compatibility: 4K HDR for Xbox One and Series X titles.
  • Windows integration: cross‑save and cross‑play.
